Shopping with the Boyfriend

Sunday, February 28, 2010 Jonette 4 Comments

It's one of those sultry Philippine evenings when you really should start writing that really long DIY post, but you're adjusting from a 36-degree Celsius mid-afternoon to a 26-degree evening, and the cat's pouncing on your toes and the boyfriend's on his DS beside you and it's just too pleasant a night to be splitting hairs over teeny-tiny things, so there.

It's been a pleasant Saturday. James and I settled to a pancake-and-sausage brunch. What was special about the sausage patties were that they were from McDonald's, courtesy of Sheryll, an office pal. Feeling all tuckered out from work, we settled down for sleep.

We awoke at 3:30pm and started prepping for dinner out and an impromptu shopping trip!

an award night of sorts

Oh. My.

It does seem that I have been awarded my first blog award for being perfectly symmetrical.

Or having a beautiful blog. Or having beautiful content. Or having pretty pictures everywhere. Or... or... I'm really not quite sure, but wow. Thank you for this award, Gene!

Alright, then. as one bestowed with this blog award, I present the rules to follow:

I want to thank everyone who took the time to share a kind word and send a kind thought my way with my last post. Writing it helped; it's given me a different perspective of the problem, and I now realize it's not really so bad. Things are beginning to look up, and look brighter.

Thank you for being with me on this, and thank you for making the world a wonderful place to live and thrive in.

Now, then. On to happier thoughts!

Salvador Dali is one of my favorite artists of all time.

Thus, I was quite astonished to find a short animated video said to be a collaboration of Dali... and Walt Disney.

Wow. Wasn't expecting that.

and Wow. I can only say that watching it feels like watching one of his pantings come to life, and, and...

I'll stop here.

I'm in love again. :)

from the Resistance of the Body series,
by René Glorius.

I had been debating with myself whether or not I should post this entry. It will probably not be a very cheerful one. Exorcising demons is hardly anything to smile about.

For some reason I could not place my finger on, I had begun to feel very despondent with each passing day of the week Unproductive. Boorish, even. I wanted to find the the reason for all these negative feelings and tension.

Tutorial: How to Crochet a Cloche Hat.

Tuesday, February 16, 2010 Jonette 4 Comments

Or, more appropriately titled, Mary's Hat at the Station.

Do you remember Mary? Sweet, charming, little lady, all dressed up and wide-eyed, and ready to face the world? The same lady who let me sleep in her car when I was spent as she drove me to Aduana, and helped me pick out my first own sewing machine, and and who fed me chocolate striped rice cakes? That lady?

She told me about two weeks ago that she had finally got the job she'd been waiting for, and was moving on. This pretty much came as a shock to me, but I wanted to make it count. I dropped everything, and did my best to make her something I hoped she'd love on such short notice.

From the Desk of Charlie Chan, Part II

... or in this case, should I say Mr. Oddjob?

Caveat: this post will feature a loooooong lineup of pictures taken by the clever and uncanny Mr. Francis Botavara. If you find shots like these not quite to your liking, may I suggest setting your sights on the next post above? Rejoice: you have at least enjoyed a wonderful picture and some information on the mysterious Mr. Oddjob.
Okay, Part I. So... where were we?

Right!

AJ declared the day after to be dress-up-and-take-pictures day. So, I played along, we puttered about in a room for Francis to take our shots and play around with light, and wow.

I must admit, I felt uncomfortable being in front of the camera, but once he started clicking away, man, things started coming off and how! Er, like my shyness, for starters. ^_^"

Yes, I liked it, and Francis knows how to make a woman beautiful. What a man.

From the Desk of Charlie Chan, Part I

Tuesday, February 16, 2010 Jonette 0 Comments

First off, Charlie Chan is a fictional Chinese-American detective whose cases and adventures thrilled readers and soon graced the silver screen during the heyday of black-and-white movies from 1931 to 1949. (44 movies! Imagine that!) He was also famous for his aphorisms, as well as for his children. find out more about him from CharlieChan.net, The Charlie Chan Family Home, and Dr. Berlin's Chan Site.

Got it? Get it? Good.

Last Tuesday, I had come back to the office, still sore-throated and hoarse from a nasty bout of laryngitis. who should come up to me and brighten my day but Mon with something precious in tow for me.

It was the bowler hat I'd ordered along with his last year! And the real thing too! Thank you, thank you, thank you Mon for having me piggy-back with you on the purchase. I'm sure the top hats you'll order with AJ will look quite dapper on you.

So pretty much, AJ and I played around with the hat.

here comes the week. Bye, week.

Saturday, February 13, 2010 Jonette 3 Comments

Hi all.

The week has been dreary full, and it's Valentine's eve. Valentine's eve! Here's extra-big hugs and kisses to all you lovely people. Mwahmwahmwah!

I've some grocery bags beside me filled with, in no particular order, a French batard, a small can of pate de foie, cream cheese, olive oil, cinnamon buns, breakfast loaf bread, and all purpose cream. The Whopper burger patties, frozen veggies, and frozen strawberries are waiting for me in the office pantry freezer.

It's 5am right now, Manila time, and I've quite a number of chores waiting for me at home. (Oh, Mr. Internet provider, wakeupwakeupwakeup!) So, before I do take my leave, here's a summary of the week that was:

see you all on Monday with full stories to each of these!

This week has been a great big mix of sorts. Not like potpourri mix or mixed nuts, but more of Aaahomgwtfbbsauceonfire!

That's why I'm hiding behind this wall. See? Is safer behind wall. Keeps crazy away. Well, mostly because I have enough crazy in my head to deal with, but that's a given.

I was pretty excited for last Saturday evening. Good crafting buddy and all-around gal pal Clair was coming over to stay for the night! Yay for sleepovers!
