Moviewatch: Clash of the Titans (2010)

Once upon a time, when yours truly was a fifth grader and carried a backpack all over the place, her English teacher had her class watch this movie as a treat for having done so well in the last exam. And she fell in love.

And now, she hears Hollywood is about to release a remake of the movie. Every time she watches the trailer she goes omuhgudguuuuguuuuuuuuguuuuuuuuu while pulling her lip down and looking quite retarded.

Mythology. Always and forever awesome, no matter how old this girl gets.

You know what would make it perfect? The little mechanical owl. Oh please, let there be the little mechanical owl.

Yes! Bubo! that's his name.

I wuv that widdle biwdie. I mean, c'mon, how can you not love a clumsy little clockwork owl that whirrs and hoots and coos and acts all adorable and robot-y? (Okay, my grammar is gone. He is seriously that cute.)

That Hepahestus. Never underestimate a blacksmith with a lot of time on his hands, lame or otherwise.

And! We'd never have bubo, or Pegasus, or the monsters or even the Kraken without the genius of Mr. Ray Harryhausen. This man be real shiznit, yo. Them CG's aint got nothin' on this boy's mad skillz.Smatter've fact, won't be no CG with no Harryhausen. Dig? Word.

Oh yeah, and Perseus? Sam Worthington.

'Nuff said. :D

Boyfriends can be crafty too

First things first: Happy wedding Anniversary, Mama and Tito Tom! Here's to more good years to come for the two of you!

Now then.

Here I have proof that James once upon a time flexed his creative muscles (and set my heart a-flutter in the process), even if he won't admit it.

For our first Christmas as a couple, he gave me this:

It just crossed my mind -- you kinda get the idea how he must've started out all patient and neat and orderly and started getting excited halfway. :)

A round of applause, ladies and gents! The man does his best, and I am proud of him.

Now this cut, glued, and decorated box housed these babies:

His best-of-the-best Mech Warrior troops. For me.
My first private army.

and more of them in the box.

We never quite got a round to having a proper game with these bad boys ever since he gave me this box. but you know what the sweetest thing about this is?

Whenever I'd go to sleep, or get sick, and I'd text him, he'd reply: "all right, men, secure the area. safeties off, show no mercy, nothing gets through. we've got a lady to protect." ♥

Liking people is addicting.

Work aside, I would like to think I was most productive today. I've been doing nothing but bloghop all day, reading entries, writing comments, being a happy voyeur. It makes me happy reading about happy people's lives in happy blogs and seeing happy handmade pretty things on my monitor screen.

I feel so happy I've forgotten to use punctuation. Except where it counts, I think.

It's 4:20 in the morning, Manila time, and I am still here online. I blame lovely creative people who have lovely creative friends, and bakers and crafters and hilarious people. Observe: My blogroll has now begat more wee bloglinks. Amazing people practically jumping all over the place. It's beautiful.

Observe: we may now exchange badges like cyberspace boyscouts. except we won't need to explore the wilderness. Maybe we should; makes life more exciting that way.

And I says you want to bring this adorable little squidy home. Yes you do.

And you want to make a badge for your own blog -- if you have one, which is a wise choice indeed --, and tell me about it so I can arrange it with the rest of the badges up yonder with love. It will be like a little love letter from you to me, and I will hug it and kiss it and call it George. I love showing people's loves.

I must come back to these blogs and comment. Everyone loves to hear "you're awesome" because it's true.

You will also notice a small with text box on yonder sidebar that invites you to ask me anything. Really. Ask me a question, any question. It will be like petting a box-shaped puppy dog, or rubbing a box-kitty. Without claws.

Sometimes, I will answer the questions in a blogpost. I would love to. Answering questions can be fun, specially when done as a part of a balanced diet, in front of people. Or no one.

Happy, creative people are part of my soul's diet. I like keeping it rosy-pink healthy by meeting more happy people. Good good. Yum yum.

Linky links and pictures to love

It's a so-so day here at the office right now. I'm still getting used to some changes in report-writing; I've run into some snags here and there with a number of word-editing software, but so far, things are slowly getting easier to do.

But enough officespeak. It's time for pretty things.

Soldier at  ease. I'd like to think he was playing twinkle twinkle little star.

Art on Pencils by GhostPatrol.

 from fffffound!

It's so silly, and I love it! :D

Pretty scarves. Want! (or want make!)

I wonder what it'd be like to live in an apartment like this. :)

And now's Anna Banana's just told me she's a-craving for chocolate cake. Chocolate cake.

Oh, Jonette, why do you torment yourself so? :D

In the meanwhile, here's a five-minute chocolate cake recipe.

This piece is lovelovelove.

I think I stopped breathing when I saw this picture. Thanks, Mon!

I've also been about looking for inspiring and lovely blogs today. Right now, I am loving Elsie Flannigan's A Beautiful Mess, and Danielle Hampton's Sometimes Sweet. Elsie's images, paintings, and DIY projects are a joy to peruse, and Danielle's Tattoo Tuesdays (and tattoos in general) have wonderful insights to ladies' tattoos, the stories behind them, and more.

Oooh, and there's also Minnie Matsumoto's Mini Nail Blog. She makes the cute-cute-cutest nails with the cutest designs! I also love how she has this sweet, refreshing outlook on life. I don't wear nail art for fear of losing a pretty nail or two while going about with my chores, but after seeing her creations, they kinda make me wish I did! This set is a particular favorite of mine. that's Charming, Minnie's sweet cockatiel. :)

I resolve to wear nail polish and maintain my nails well instead of biting them. Nasty habit of mine when I feel all antsy about something -- or nothing in particular!

Other links that've entertained me today:
Here's the first of three parts of Episode 1, though. The anime's really cute!

Watch Part 2 here, and Part 3 here.
Salut!

Painting by Audrey Kawasaki.

Sometimes browsing through images helps you focus. A blue rainy window. Backlit paper parasols. The words "I'm out of clever things to say". Red orbs on bare branches hanging against a heavy. blue sky. Clothes wearing a woman in bed.

That sort of thing.

So, what has been happening lately? I've been crocheting hats and more hats, and now I'm trying my hand at knitting one. I'm starting off with this particular piece in earthy brown, just to see how it looks in real life.

I'm hungry. Oh, just a passing thought.

A few weeks ago, I've also finished a second denim skirt made of two pairs of jeans. Yep, that's right, two -- and it feels just as heavy. Truth be told, it feels like I'm wearing something made from a World War II parachute, haha! but it's funky and pocket-y and I love how the tough material moves when I walk. Makes me feel like an ancient forest ranger.

Pics and a proper post to follow, I assure you.

Recently, James and I have been entertaining ourselves with two things.

The first one is Torchlight, a game that we like to describe as Diablo Light, or Diablo's baby brother. I love it for the art, the gameplay, the fantasy-steampunk-y feel to it, and um, the dressing-up bit. Oh, if only the female range fighter's armor didn't get more stripperific the higher she levels. but at least you get to have a pet who will help you fight, carry a portion of your booty and take it back to town to sell. Er... Items! I meant items!

The second item (or items?) on our list would be a number of decks James composed from the humongous tin box of Magic:The Gathering in my bedroom. Y'see, one of my cousins bequeathed this box to me a long time ago and told me to keep it well. James soon discovered the box, and here we are, putting decks together, mixing, matching, experimenting.

the box in question.

We do our best to sort the cards by color, then by creature and non-creature types, then by name. This pretty much confirmed that I'm terrible with names, but I'm better with faces -- in this case, art.

a sea of blue -- and that's not even half the contents of the box.

The ability's not much game-wise, but I think the art and the creature concept is pretty.

Tweed being ghostly.

James sifting through the cards. I love this shot of him.

So! For now, I'm being a good little employee, giving lessons, finishing reports on time, and coming to work early. In between, I work with yarn, and when I get home, I plop right into bed and get some sleep. I've got two big projects niggling at the back of my head -- a pair of sort-of-tailored, zippered drawstring pants for my dad, and the corset for the corset challenge. *sigh* Well... we'll see. I'd best get around to these one way or another.

Other things we've been on:

  • Movie time! We've recently enjoyed watching  James Cameron's Avatar on 3D, and Terry Gilliam's The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus. and before that, we've had a back-to-back viewing of District 9 and Terminator: Salvation on James' PC. Nothing quite like having a mini-movie theater for two, with chips and cold A&W Cream Soda in reach. :D Avatar and and District 9 do rightfully deserve their accolades. The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus may bewilder and befuddle at first, but just look closer, and leave your judgement at the box office. As all Terry Gilliam movies, this one is honest, unpretentious, and invites you to have a sense of wonder to better understand it. Terminator: Salvation? Honest opinion: Sam Worthington is the better actor.

  • Brian Jacques' Redwall series. It's high adventure, cryptic riddles, secret chambers, a bit of romance, epic battles and above all, good vegan home cooking -- with woodland creatures as players. Trust me -- It's better than it sounds. We owe our thanks to workmate-and-neighbors Irl and Ditas Pangilinan for making us cheer for valiant mice and light-hearted hares. Eulaliaaaa!

Somewhere out there, the Redwall Cookbook is waiting for us to find it. Oh, yesssssirree.

    Things that made my week:

for mature viewers of all ages. ;)
